Preparation
- Remove all loose rust, dirt, grease and salt with
Hammerite Brush Cleaner & Thinners and rinse with
clean water. Allow time to dry.
- For painted metal surfaces wash down thoroughly
with diluted detergent, rinse with clean water and
allow to dry. Paint a small test patch on the painted
surface to ensure compatibility with existing paint.
Any reaction will occur within the hour. If there
is, remove all paint then wash down with degreaser.
Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
- For smooth metal surfaces, lightly abrade for maximum
adhesion.
- On bare zinc, aluminium and galvanized metal surfaces
use Hammerite Special Metals Primer before applying
Hammerite Direct To Rust Metal Paint.
Note: Special precautions
should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust during surface
preparation of pre-1960's paint surfaces as they may
contain harmful lead.

Application
- Ideal application temperature is 8 to 25ºC.
Lightly stir, do NOT mix vigorously.
- By brush: apply 2 thick coats,
ensure that all edges and corners are covered adequately.
Do NOT over apply as sagging will occur.
- By roller: apply 2 thick coats.
Thin with Hammerite Brush Cleaner & Thinners at
9 parts paint to 1 part thinners. Brush in edges first,
for best results.
- By conventional spray: apply 4
thin coats and thin with Hammerite Brush Cleaner &
Thinners at 2 parts paint to 1 part thinners. Set
spray gun at 25/35psi and use fan spray at maximum
volume. Allow 1-8 hours between coats.

Cleaning &
Storage
Remove as much paint as possible from equipment
before cleaning. For best results use Hammerite Brush
Cleaner & Thinners. Hammerite should be stored in
a dry well ventilated area. Protect from frost and direct
sunlight. DO NOT EMPTY PAINT INTO DRAINS OR WATERCOURSES.

Tools Required
Blunt screwdriver or old knife, wire brush
or coarse sandpaper, paint brush or roller, goggles,
protective gloves, masking tape, Hammerite Brush Cleaner
& Thinners and rags.
