Preparation
- Abrade smooth surfaces and remove all flaking paint with a wire brush. Special precautions should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust during surface preparation of pre-1960's painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead.
- Remove dirt and dust with diluted detergent. Remove grease with Hammerite Brush Cleaner and Thinners. Rinse with clean water and allow time to dry.
- When painting over old paint apply a test patch of Hammerite Garden Metal Shades and leave for 1 hour. If there is no reaction apply Hammerite Garden Metal Shades directly to surface. If there is a reaction, remove all paint with Hammerite Paint Remover before applying Hammerite Garden Metal Shades.
- On bare zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces apply Hammerite Special Metals Primer before applying Hammerite Metal Shades.
