Usage Guide

Preparation

  • Abrade smooth surfaces and remove all flaking paint with a wire brush. Special precautions should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust during surface preparation of pre-1960's painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead.
  • Remove dirt and dust with diluted detergent. Remove grease with Hammerite Brush Cleaner and Thinners. Rinse with clean water and allow time to dry.
  • When painting over old paint apply a test patch of Hammerite Garden Metal Shades and leave for 1 hour. If there is no reaction apply Hammerite Garden Metal Shades directly to surface. If there is a reaction, remove all paint with Hammerite Paint Remover before applying Hammerite Garden Metal Shades.
  • On bare zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces apply Hammerite Special Metals Primer before applying Hammerite Metal Shades.

Application

  • Ideal application temperature = 8ºC to 25ºC. Lightly stir before use. DO NOT mix vigorously.
  • Apply 2 thick coats, ensure that all edges and corners are adequately covered. Second coat must be applied within 8 hours. DO NOT over apply, as sagging will occur.

Cleaning & Storage

Remove as much paint as possible from application equipment before cleaning with Hammerite Brush Cleaner & Thinners. Store in a well ventilated area and protect from frost and strong sunlight. DO NOT empty paint into drains or watercourses..
